June was always going to be a big month, but June 5th has unexpectedly turned into Nebraska’s biggest recruiting weekend yet with 15 official visitors currently scheduled to be in Lincoln. In the 2026 recruiting cycle Nebraska brought recruits in early for visits only to have them visit other schools afterwards and commit there.
This season Rhule and his staff made a concentrated effort to schedule visits during the third week of June so they would have the last shot. However, several Nebraska targets made official visits elsewhere in May and have committed during those visits. What’s worse, not only did they commit, but they also cancelled their official visits to Nebraska, eliminating any shot the Huskers had at getting them on campus and swaying them. Schools are becoming more aggressive and nailing players down, stipulating their offer is only good if the recruit shuts down his visits.
For Nebraska they will now need to fall back on an old Thoreau quote. “Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.” Hopefully Rhule and his staff did foresee that and had a contingency plan in place because they’ll now have to circle back.
Two weeks ago, Nebraska had 32 visitors scheduled for June 5th though the 19th. Since then, the June 5th weekend went from 11 to 15 visits, the June 12th weekend went from 10 to 8 and the June 19 weekend went from 11 to 7. After 7 recruits cancelled their visits Rhule and staff scrambled to move visits up and fill spots. However, they still stand at 32 visitors.
The seven players that committed elsewhere and cancelled their Nebraska visits:
Matthew Brady – Linebacker, 6’4”, 215-pound 3-Star, committed to Michigan State.
Henry Sakakas – Safety, 6’3”, 190-pound 3-Star, committed to Michigan State.
Grayson Kzmouz – Edge, 6’5”, 210-pound 3-Star, committed to Boise State.
Mekhi Williams – Safety, 6’3”, 170-pound 4-Star, committed to Wisconsin.
Kobe Rhymes – Linebacker, 6’1”, 225-pound 3-Star, committed to Missouri.
Zahmar Tookes – DL, 6’3”, 260-pound 4-Star, committed to Florida.
Zai’Vion Meads – DL, 6’3”, 280-pound 3-Star, committed to west Virgina.
Why did I list the players Nebraska didn’t get? Just to show how volatile and cutthroat recruiting has become. Several experts had some of these guys crystal balled for Nebraska, and they didn’t even take an official visit.
The Huskers will be concentrating on the following positions.
Linebackers
With linebackers Brady and Rhymes both coming off the board the Huskers nailed down an official visit from Eli Harris, a 6’0”, 198-pound 3-Star. What makes Harris so intriguing is he is teammates with Jordan Agbanoma, KD Jones, and Joey Hunter, all from Loganville, Georgia. The Huskers are also trying to secure a visit from fellow Grayson linebacker Aaron Black. Black is 6’2”, 205-pounds and has offers from Florida State and Virginia Tech as well as Nebraska.
I’ll also mention legacy Cash Wilks, son of former Husker Joel Wilks. Cash is a 6’2”, 218-pound unranked linebacker from Oswego, OR. He camped and worked out this week at Nebraska.
Tight End
Speaking of Joey Hunter, the 6’6”, 255-pound 3-Star tight end will be visiting this weekend along with Seager Milholen, a 6’6”, 235-pound 3-Star tight end from Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas. As of now it appears the Huskers are looking to add two tight ends in this cycle. Nebraska is expected to land one if not both guys.
The wild card here is the surprise visit of 5-Star Ahmad Hudson. The 6’6”, 245-pound Louisiana native was on Nebraska’s official visitor list before he committed to LSU. Afterwards Hudson wasn’t expected to visit but showed up this weekend and is spending time close friend QB commit Trae Taylor. What does it mean for Nebraska? It’s anyone’s guess, in today recruiting you can’t count anyone in or out until they sign and are on campus.
Wide Receiver
After dealing with recruits making early commits elsewhere Nebraska had no problem letting 6’0”, 170-pound WR Matthew Gregory move his visit up 2-weeks to June 5th. After visiting UCLA Gregory asked to move his visit up so that he could make an early decision. Nebraska is looking to sign two more receivers in this class and have also been pursuing Kalil Taylor, 5’11”, 190-pound 4-Star and Isaiah Alveraz, 6’0”, 175-pound 3-Star. Both players will visit the weekend of June 12. Perhaps Gregory is feeling some heat, concerned if there will still be a spot available after their visit.
The big question is what will current commit Kaden Howard do? Howard is taking an official visit to Georgia Tech this weekend. If for some reason Howard was to flip to Georgia Tech, the Huskers would attempt to take all three visitors, Gregory, Taylor, and Alverez.
EDGE (DL)
Nebraska has work to do at the Edge position as well. Ma’atoe Moe visited Minnesota, posted on social media he had committed and then immediately took his post down, deciding to stick to his plan of visiting Nebraska.
“I did commit to Minnesota but I’m backing off a bit,” Moe said. “I want to see how this visit plays out and then I’ll decide where I’m going after this weekend.” Getting the 6’4”, 220-pound 3-Star in for a visit was all Nebraska could hope for. A top 15 player in the state of Utah, the Huskers would like to get Moe to commit.
This is a key position that Nebraska needs to work on, thus far they haven’t had much success. As of the time of this writing the one other scheduled visitor, Chris Kasky a 6’5”, 200-pound 3-Star from La Grange Park, IL, committed to Missouri.
Three other edge players who recently visited but have yet to be offered are Jason Armbruster, 6’3”, 233-pounds, Rylan Tisdall, 6’4”, 240-pounds, and Samuel Savenok, 6’5”, 245-pounds.
Defensive Backs
Nebraska has had a couple of players come off their board, but give Addison Williams credit, he has recruited well and players will need to commit or possibly lose their spot. This weekend sees Bryce Wiliams, 6’2”, 175-pound 4-Star and Jailen Hill, 6’3”, 160-pound 4-Star both visiting. Listed as cornerbacks even though they are tall and rangy, it shows what the Huskers are looking for in that position. Experts are saying both guys are expected to commit to the Huskers.
Three other DB’s are scheduled to visit June 12th. Cornerback Kamauri Whitfield, 5’10”, 185-pound 3-Star, and safeties Brennan Drummond, 6’0”, 180-pound 3-Star and James Johnson, 6’3”, 190-pound 3-Star. A fourth, Kennedy Green, 6’1”, 200-pound 4-Star will visit June 19th. With two commits already and six guys in play, it’s unclear how many DB’s Nebraska will take in this class.
Defensive Line
This is another position the Huskers have struggled with missing out on Zahmar Tookes, Zai’Vion Meads, and Waylon Wooten. With Jayden Tavers the lone commitment to the Huskers, they would like to add two if not three more to this position. They will get a visit this weekend from two players, Errol Demontagnac, 6’3”, 270-pound 3-Star and Nehemiah Ombati, 6’3”, 275-pound 3-Star. Demontagnac has long been expected to commit to the Huskers, and they have a good shot at landing Ombati as well. If they were to land both, the Huskers would be ecstatic.
Offensive Line
One of the biggest names of the weekend is 5-Star offensive tackle Albert Simien. The Huskers will pull out all the stops in getting the 6’3”, 295-pound Louisiana native to join the 2027 class. That includes offensive line commits Jordan Agbanoma, Timi Aliu, and KD Jones all moving their official visits to this weekend so that they could be on campus with Simien and peer recruit. Teams to beat in this recruitment are Texas A&M and LSU. What must LSU be thinking with two 5-Star recruits from their state visiting Nebraska?
Nebraska currently has four offensive line commits and three more making visits. Besides Simien, Kyler Kuhn, 6’3”, 280-pound 4-Star and Barrett Kitrell, 6’4”, 270-pound 3-Star will visit June 12th. The Huskers are sure to take 5, will they make it 6 or 7?
Did Nebraska get ahead of the runaway train that is recruiting by moving visits up, getting Albert Simien and Ahmad Hudson to visit in the same weekend? Will there be commitments made over the weekend or next week? There may be – but always remember, with recruiting it isn’t over until it’s over. Until then keep your fingers crossed Husker fans.
