Lighting Up the Recruiting Scoreboard

Reading Time: 2 minutes

This weekend was always going to be big as far as recruiting, but if we were keeping score for how big, well, Matt Rhule and his staff are lighting up the scoreboard. Nebraska’s 2027 class is currently ranked 18th by Rivals On3 with 15 recruits and 7 blue chips players. It was expected that the Huskers could pick up five to six commits over the weekend and that happened.

Kicking off the commitment party was defensive lineman Errol Demontagnac, a 6’3”, 275-pound 3-Star defensive lineman. Demontagnac joins Jayden Tavers, a 6’4”, 290-pound 3-Star in becoming the second defensive lineman in the 2027 class.

Bryce Williams was up next. The 6’2”, 175-pound 4-Star cornerback becomes the third defensive back in the 2027 class with 4-Star, 6’0”, 190-pound Tory Pittman and Corey Hadley a 6’1”, 180-pound 4-Star.

Eli Harris was the third member of the weekend and first linebacker to join the 2027 class. The 6’0”, 200-pound 3-Star is the third recruit from Grayson (Loganville, GA) to commit to the Huskers in this cycle.

Ma’atoe Moe flipped from Minnesota after visiting Lincoln. The 6’4”, 240-pound 3-Star becomes the first Edge position player in this cycle.

Joey Hunter a 6’6”, 240-pound 3-Star tight end becomes the first tight end in the 2027 cycle. He too is from Grayson (Loganville, GA), making him the fourth player from the school and the sixth Georgian this cycle. Corey Hadley and O-Lineman Timi Aliu are also from the Peach State.

It was a great weekend of recruiting for Matt Rhule and his staff, and I anticipate there to be more commitments over the next week. However, there was one little snag. Wide receiver commit Kaden Howard flipped to Georgia Tech after visiting. The move isn’t totally unexpected as Howard has continued to take visits.

That’s one of the reasons Nebraska had Matthew Gregory a 6’0”, 170-pound 4-Star speedster in this weekend and is scheduled to see Kalil Taylor, 5’11”, 190-pound 4-Star and Isiah Alverez, 6’0”, 170-pound 3-Star next weekend. Look for the Huskers to add all three if possible, now that Howard flipped.

Names to watch as the next commits, WR Mathew Gregory, DL Nehemiah Ombati (June 10), CB Jailen Hill, and TE Seager Milholen.

On flip watch, TE Ahmad Hudson (LSU), LB Caleb Green (Missouri), and LB Kobe Rhymes (Missouri). All three players were in Lincoln this weekend.

As far as 5-Star O-lineman Albert Simien, it’s been quiet, which isn’t a good sign. I don’t think Nebraska overtakes Texas A&M or LSU on this one.

It was also a big week of camps for Rhule and his staff. They were able to see, identify and make several offers for the 2028 and 2029 cycles. More on that later.

Stay tuned Husker fans as the 2027 class expands and get closer to 20 recruits.

GO BIG RED!! SIMPLE, FAST, VIOLENT!!
