Nebraska was able to get 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor to commit in May of 2025, over a year ago. Several teams thought Nebraska settled on Taylor too soon. While Taylor showed promise he hadn’t yet fully developed, especially physically. Other teams showed interest but weren’t willing to go all in on Taylor. Now there isn’t a Top 25 team that wouldn’t jump to sign Taylor.
Although Taylor still has his senior year of high school to play, the Huskers couldn’t be happier with their future quarterback. With Taylor on board so early and able to peer recruit, Matt Rhule’s 2027 class is his best thus far and one of Nebraska’s best in years.
What can that be attributed to? Trae Taylor for one, but don’t underestimate the Adidas sponsored 7-on7 Battle at the Boneyard either. Taylor played in the event last season and over forty 4-and-5-Star recruits were there with him, including Tory Pittman, Jailen Hill, Ahmad Hudson, and Kalil Taylor. All future Nebraska commits or recruits.
This year’s event was no different. Lincoln and the Huskers played host to a talent rich group of unofficial visitors who displayed why they are some of the top recruits in the nation. Many, who would never have set foot in Lincoln had it not been for the Battle of the Boneyard, were pleasantly surprised with what they saw and experienced.
Almost 40 offensive and defensive linemen competed in the Big Man Camp. Of those, 20 to 25 were Division I talent. Between the Battle of the Boneyard and the Big Man Camp Nebraska made close to 16 offers. It’s early, and there is no reason to get excited that Nebraska has yet to receive a commitment for the 2028 class.
Here are eight players that were offered. Remember their names, it won’t be the last you hear of some of them.
Malachi Lee – WR, 6’2”, 185-pound 4-Star from Chantilly, Virginia. He ranks 45th nationally, No. 8 at his position, and No.1 overall in Virgina. He has offers from Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Nebraska.
Carter St. Junious – WR, 6’3”, 183-pound 4-Star from Manvel, Texas. He ranks 136th nationally, No. 20 at his position, and No. 14 overall in Texas. He has received offers from Texas A&M, Houston, SMU, Kansas State and Nebraska.
Isarael Johnigan – TE, 6’5”, 215-pound 3-Star from Kansas City, Missouri. Ranked 506th nationally, No. 20 at his position, and No. 7 overall in Missouri. He has offers from Iowa State and Nebraska.
Tyler Trusel – WR, 6’3”, 180-pouns 3- Star from Detroit, Michigan. He is ranked 416th nationally, No. 66 at his position, and No. 10 overall in the state of Michigan. He has offers from Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa State, and Nebraska.
Elijah Willis – IOL, 6’3”, 280-pound 3-Star from Detroit, Michigan. Ranked 659th nationally, No.42 at his position, and No. 15 in the state of Michigan. He has offers from Iowa, Wisconsin, Washington, and Nebraska.
Jeremiah McCall – DL, 6’3”, 245-pound 3-Star from Harper Woods, Michigan. Ranked 724th nationally, No. 72 at his position, and No. 19 overall in the state of Michigan. He has offers from Iowa, Kansas, Washington, and Nebraska.
Jordan Moore – Athlete, 6’3”, 185-pounds from Chicago, Illinois. Not yet rated. He has received offers from Vanderbilt, Kansas State, UNLV, and Nebraska.
Cayden Johnson – OT, 6’6”, 305-pounds from Memphis, Tennessee. Not yet rated. He has received offers from Kansas, Memphis, and Nebraska.
Much like Trae Taylor’s recruitment, Nebraska is identifying talent early, making offers, building relationships, and getting guys on campus as early as possible. As you can see, most of these guys have multiple offers and will receive more as they develop.
Rhule has seen success with bringing Trae Taylor on board early. He’ll need to find his bell cow for the 2028 class. It probably won’t be another quarterback if 5-for-5 is implemented, which is expected in the next few weeks. If that happens the 2027 season could see Anthony Colandrea and Trae Taylor competing for the starting spot. Taylor may sit his freshman year, but it’s hard to imagine anyone beating him out over the next three to four seasons.
